I consider myself a full blown country girl even though I was born and raised in Houston Texas. Horse crazy from the get-go posed a problem for my parents because the begging never stopped until they finally caved around Christmas when I was 12. Up to this point I read, sketched and dreamed of horses and other than on occasional "liberating" the neighbors horses,it seemed as though it was not going to happen. I was in a state of euphoria for the first few years I owned that horse and rode all day everyday in the summer and most days after school. I continued to pursue art and in High School was allowed to take classes at the Lowell Collins studio in Houston then went on to junior college to major in Art but... as much as I wanted to paint I did not want to study so into the work force I went. Art was merely a hobby and not a very frequent one. After I was married I started to draw again with pastels then took a couple of pieces to the local frame shop to get mounted and wrapped, while waiting for help, a girl saw my drawing a offered me a 100 bucks, that was incentive enough to buy some new supplies and do a few more. Soon I was drawing portraits for fellow horse folks and one thing lead to another and now I paint full time. There have been a few workshops along the way and I try to keep my mind open to new things, styles, tips, techniques and one of these days I will take the big leap and try watercolor again. For now I will keep painting the landscape and what ever else inspires me, I am ever evolving as an "artist" and hope to keep doing so for many years to come. |
